If this post would only help one other person with their decision on whether to use CrazyDomains.com.au for registrar it is worth it!

In my opinion and experience their:

- customer service lacks, no urgency or proper response
- their DNS system is not intuitive at all and hard to understand even for someone working with DNS for many years

Here is my latest message to them, awaiting reply from them on complaints@crazydomains.com.au.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to lodge a formal complaint about the service I received from your company.
First let me tell you that I have been working with the Internet since they created BBS, I’m no dummy and know what is involved with a transfer, how long it takes etc. (just letting them know so we can skip the usual template reply of you needed to follow this, or wait for that)

I transferred our domain executiveresults.com.au from our other registrar in the hope that we would get better service. (Other registrar failed to notify us via email about our domain expiration)

I initiated transfer on the 25th of Dec and confirmed it . Note the following in your email:
You should experience NO disruption to the service of your domain name, website or emails, and you will be notified once the process is complete.
Our website which brings in about $500 to $1000 per day in leads has been down since the 25th of Dec and is still down as we speak. Please note that I have warned your staff about taking this further and seeking damages, I’ve had no reply or concern shown in regards to this. I’ve asked for a contact in higher management to get this matter escalated, I’ve had no response, it got completely ignored. Note that you have received all these emails as a ticket is assigned to them. Your staff shows total lack of concern or urgency for a serious situation like this.

NOTE: on the 28th I got an email from May asking to call and renew the domain. See below.

Hello Taco,

Thank you for contacting Customer Support.

Please give us a call to renew it asap.

Telephone number : (08) 9422 0855
(08) 9422 0888
1300 210 210

Regards,
May

I called ASAP as I’m sure your records will show and spoke to some Indian guy who said he could not renew it, I said that I was just asked to call and renew it, nothing I said helped. Asking to speak to someone else did not help either, he put me on hold for a while and then he came back on himself several times. Many more emails got exchanged in between then and now, but the most important thing is that TODAY when I called and spoke to someone else, they asked me for my credit card and renewed the domain. WHY COULD THIS NOT BE DONE WHEN I CALLED THE FIRST TIME!

First off, the domain should have never been down as stated in your auto reply email, secondly once May sent me an email asking to call and renew, it should have been renewed, thirdly, when I asked to speak to senior management I should have been given a contact, fourthly, your staff shold have answered my other tickets submitted with concerns and possible solutions to this matter (i.e. canceling the transfer, or asking whom I can contact higher up to get a solution).

I would like to know from you.
1. are you going to resolve this matter before we take it any further?
2. if not, please forward the contacts and addresses for us to forward proof of loss of income and further action

OK, I’ve literally spend 3 days trying to recover my iPhone from an error 1015. I tried to remove the jail break from my phone and restore it to its original firmware etc. Nothing seemed to work, everytime I seemed to run into the dreaded 1015 error, only thing that did work was install another jail break on it. But I did not give up and finally found Fixrecovery OSX from http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/ and it worked like a charm. I got everything back on it after re-installing and upgrading my iPhone…. I hope this will save someone else a hell of a lot of time.

Been having some issues with WordPress on IIS7 windows 2003 for a while now and think I finally got it solved, thought I’d post the info here for others to see, as I had a hard time finding this info myself anywhere else, not even the WordPress website.

This is what I found after a lot of playing around, if you see any issues with this or have any feedback please let me know below.

On the wp-content folder I applied the following permissions.

C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wordpress\wp-content
- IUSR with following permissions

Traverse folder / execute file

List folder / read data

Read attributes

Read extended attributes

Create files / write data

Create folders / append data

Write attributes

Write extended attributes

Delete subfolders and files

Delete

Read permissions

I also have the following groups and users on there

IIS_IUSRS

Trustedinstaller

SYSTEM

Administrators

Users

CREATOR OWNER

Here are the steps I followed

Right click wp-content

Properties

Security tab

Advanced button

Change permissions button

Add button

Advanced button

Find now button

Locate IUSR and double click

OK button

Check box Allow Full control

Uncheck the boxes; Full control, Take ownership, Change permissions

Click OK button

Check box “Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object”

Click OK button

Click Yes when asked if you want to continue

Click OK button

Click OK button

I’m not making anything in the root writable, like wp-config etc. I change that manually or as a one off.

Been pulling m hair out today with ColdFusion…. I kept getting this error with cfhttp “I/O Exception: peer not authenticated” I knew that it had to do with the fact I was making a call to HTTPS and I needed to import the certificate. I also remembered how to do it:

- Go to the URL in Internet Explorer
- Click the lock
- Click on Copy to file
- Save as DER to a *.cer file
- Run the Keytool C:\CFusionMX\runtime\jre\lib\security>..\..\bin\keytool -import -trustcacerts -keystore cacerts -storepass changeit -noprompt -alias mycert -file mycert.cer

But the part where I was failing was actually going to the directory where the carcerts file was, I went into the directory where the keytool was and ran the command, this actually creates a whole new cacerts file which I was not aware of….. After re-installing ColdFusion several times and running the import I finally figured it out.

IMPORTANT
Make sure you are in the directory where the cacerts file is located, which is under C:\CFusionMX\runtime\jre\lib\security or C:\JRun4\jre\lib\security

I hope this helps someone before they go and re-install ColdFusion Let me know..

I asked around on Facebook the other day for any other Direct Debit Service Providers and Solutions and following is part of the conversation that followed. I’m posting this to give you some idea of what’s out there. and I will also have a follow up on the EzyPay experience soon.

Conversation
- Anyone know an alternative to EzyPay?

- Paysmart is a good debit system, local too.

- https://www.selfbankmobile.com/tdi – the future of all payment transfers i’ve my i-fone activ8ed will b released in australia later this year

- i use peoplehub and have found it very easy and the reports are great…

- ezidebit?

- Debitsuccess. Ezydebit are rubbish

- I use paypal , it seems to work well

- I had a bad experience with Paypal and will be moving across. A client’s husband didn’t recognise my charges on his CC statement. Cancelled the payments (from 3-4 months ago) – then rang the bank straight away to reinstate. Too late, once the ball is in motion, Paypal still take the money out of your account and hold it – and then they refunded it back to the client. Lucky my client is not dishonest!

——————-

We’ll be trialing Paysmart Direct Debit System starting this week, and I will report back on their interface plus customer service as soon as possible. Personally, I wanted to go with PayPal, but the problem there is that customers can cancel the DDR when they want, this is not good when they’ve entered a yearly contract, i.e. we offer them a lower weekly rate because they commit for a year.

If anyone else has any other options, or feedback about the above providers, please post them here.

I’m truly fed up with facebook advertising, it DOESN’T work!! This is now the THIRD time we organised events through facebook, countless people say they will attend, none actually show! It’s a bloody joke!

Everyone must think its some virtual event they are saying YES too… To give you an example; http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=114830651891975
more than 20 people said they would attend, none did.

OK, I also just discovered that the link for the event is only accessible by me, or maybe when logged in, not sure!?!?

Have a look at the two screen shots below, take note of the URL, pretty much the same in each browser, only difference being is that in one I’m logged in, and the other I’m logged out. Pretty bad usability from facebook, you would expect to be able to copy and paste a URL and send it someone else to share, if they need to be logged in to view that should be the message, not a 404… Facebook sucks…

Facebook event logged in

What I do know is, I’m done wasting my time organising something through facebook unless it’s something people actually don’t have to physically show up for

If you are looking for Alan Swanwick from MW Law, please let me first tell you about my experience with this character (it might change your mind).

Several months ago I had to deal with a solicitor from MWLaw (Alan Swanwick) and my experience is the absolute worst I have ever had in regards to promptness, courtesy and business manners. This guy really tops it all in my books.

He is supposed to take care of some legal matter for someone else that employs him; the person that employs him told me that he’d take care of the legal matter while away “Alan my solicitor will be handling the entire project now as time has beaten me. I have given him your details and I will give you his.

Alan Swanwick MW Law…03 9837 2111

He will take care of everything with you.”.

I called Alan as I did not hear from him, I was not aware that Alan was on holiday himself; his answering machine certainly did not tell me so. Or was he really on holiday? Could have been something you say when you are ashamed of the person not getting in touch, they did warn me “Alan is a hard man to get hold of” in other words he’s not much of a communications man.

Weeks of no responses, well… I did get one phone call from him to my wife, unfortunately my wife forgot that we left a message under her name with a business proposal, to see if he would return the call to that, which he did.

At this stage I was pretty frustrated as the matter was and still is of high importance to me (I’m talking sleepless nights, losing money important, which Alan was made aware off), in such a case you simply need a bit of info on where things are at, how long it will take etc., just the usual courtesy call one would expect in a case like this. I took things further with the people who hired him and pay him, again they apologized and assured Mr Alan Swanwick would work on the matter within the next day or so and would be in touch. But nothing again, I waited several weeks.

At this stage we are close to 2 months further down the track, still absolutely not one peep from Mr Alan Swanwick. I went back to the people paying him, they gave me him mobile number, you guessed it, no answer – ever. He was there, as he did reply to an SMS to 0438 608 823, the contents being:

“Sorry about communication problem. I’ll call you tomorrow and sort out what needs to be done, and I will either initiate it before my return or upon my return to the office on Monday.

Alan Swanwick”

Weeks go by, no phonecall, no update or anything.

A few more emails to lans@mwlaw.com.au and alan.swanwick@gmail.com, SMSs and emails were sent by me, but nothing.

So at this stage the only thing I can do is make sure that anyone typing in “Alan Swanwick”, “MW Law” or mwlaw in google will find this experience first and think twice before putting their case in his hands.

Some other pages I found Alan Swanwick related to:

- The Caveman Foundation (Director of The Caveman Foundation, Legal Department)

- The Caveman Group

- The GR8 M8TES

- The Great Mates

I don’t know the guy personally, never met him or spoken to him, if I would not have had this experience with him I would have said, probably a good guy since he is involved with some good stuff. But unfortunately this experience that deals with something so important to me left such a bad taste in my mouth, I’m so bitter, I could almost say that I have developed a hatred for the guy. I can’t seem to let go of this, so all I can do is write about it and make sure anyone searching for Mr Allan Swanwick or A Swanwick from MW Law or Caveman Group finds this and thinks twice before doing any business that involves him.

Source
Every referral to a web site has an origin, or source. Examples of sources are the Google search engine, the AOL search engine, the name of a newsletter, or the name of a referring web site.

Medium
The medium helps to qualify the source; together, the source and medium provide specific information about the origin of a referral. For example, in the case of a Google search engine source, the medium might be “cost-per-click”, indicating a sponsored link for which the advertiser paid, or “organic”, indicating a link in the unpaid search engine results. In the case of a newsletter source, examples of medium include “email” and “print”.

Term
The term or keyword is the word or phrase that a user types into a search engine.

Content
The content dimension describes the version of an advertisement on which a visitor clicked. It is used in content-targeted advertising and Content (A/B) Testing to determine which version of an advertisement is most effective at attracting profitable leads.

Campaign
The campaign dimension differentiates product promotions such as “Spring Ski Sale” or slogan campaigns such as “Get Fit For Summer”.

Just launched our new product Pacific Fox Business and Web Directory
http://pacificfox.com/.

Category listing looks like this http://pacificfox.com/listing/computers/programming/languages/

An actual listing looks like this http://pacificfox.com/web-listing.cfm?listingIdentity=521128

It has some great integration with social networks like facebook, twitter and other sources.

There is still lots of work to do on the directory, the data is currently based on several sources including ODP, but we are working towards creating a completely separately maintained data source that can be queried and managed via a Web Service. It costs to lists in the directory, however, the fee is very minimal and is basically there to make sure the listing is still active. People don’t notify a web directory when their business is closed down or the listing isn’t relevant for some other reason, which is why we charge a fee of less than $2 dollars a month simply to make sure the listings is active.

Flickr integration is not far away, and many other features will be added over time, including integration with www.clickfind.com.au. We are also working towards setting up a approval system that is like ODP but improved, as the procedures currently in place are not working, people own categories but do not approve anything, don’t participate but also don’t allow others to. Open to partnerships in this area.

PS. the directory also uses our free social bookmarking links code from http://www.socialbookmarkinglinks.com/, the code is handy on WordPress where you don’t host the blog yourself.

I just bought an industrial vacuum cleaner for our gym in West End, you know those vacuum cleaners you put on your back? I’m very happy with it, it was only $230 from Godfreys in Chermside. I tried it out at home and am really impressed with it, easy to handle, much easier than having to cart one of those boxes over the floor, and with an extra long cord there is no need to unplug it…

We’ll buy another one to use at home now as well.
